• The Customs and Traditions of Oisans Association

The main aim of this association is to make known outside of Oisans the authenticity of the mountain dwellers’ culture, which must be revived... “before the dying embers burn out under the ashes of time”. The organisers carry out research into heritage, along with a range of complementary activities.

The association has in particular published a highly detailed inventory of country chapels and shrines of Oisans, which is on sale at the Bourg d’Oisans Tourist Office. This will be followed by a list of fountains and washhouses, whilst that of sundials and another of bells are currently under preparation.

Together with the bulletin which links all members, events and meetings take place throughout the year: Montagn’Art, every summer there is an exhibition by Oisans’ amateur artists, enhancing the Rochetaillée roman road and the archaeological remains, efforts to preserve the patois (local dialect), painstakingly making to measure local traditional costumes, studying and restoring the “Protestant paths", organising film screenings, such as ‘young viewers’ film days or days dedicated to high mountain films.

There are many people in France and abroad who have their roots firmly fixed in Oisans. The Customs and Traditions of Oisans Association, that today counts over 300 members, is open to all of them.
