Come and discover an exhibition dedicated to the ibex, the animal that has come to symbolize Alpine wildlife.
Despite being on the verge of extinction at the end of the 19th century, the ibex has now been successfully re-introduced into several Alpine mountain ranges. The exhibition traces the return of the ibex to the Eau d’Olle valley and the Belledonne massif, together with the scientific monitoring carried out by the National Office of Hunting and Wildlife (Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage).
School outings are organised for children with a mountain guide and a representative of the National Office of Hunting and Wildlife. For more information, call 04 76 80 71 60.
The York Mallory Centre recounts the mysterious plane crash above the Allemont river in November 1944 that led to the death, among others, of the British Air Chief Marshall Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory (the younger brother of George Mallory, famous for his failed attempt to climb Everest). The Air Chief Marshall, who had been responsible for coordinating air operations during the planning and execution of the Normandy landings in 1942, had been travelling from Northolt, England to Ceylon, when his York MW126 crashed inexplicably into the side of a mountain.
