The aim of the CHASAL LENTO, a museum of traditions and arts of Mont de Lans, is to preserve and display objects of bygone life in Oisans.
What does Chasal Lento mean? Chasal is the name given to high pasture chalets and Lento, the 12th century name of the village of Mont de Lans.
In the restored former presbytery, the heavy front door opens onto six themed exhibition rooms.
The first two rooms house the permanent exhibitions. Voices of local people guide you through the display of their personal objects, which depict how people lived until quite recently in the Oisans region.
The following room is the reconstruction of a stable, housing a collection of agricultural tools.
On the first floor, you can get a birds’ eye view of Mont de Lans, meet the famous Uissans pedlars and visit the Chambon dam and the flooded hamlets.
The attic space is given over to temporary exhibitions. The Chasal Lento is currently showing A History of stories...the history of Mont de Lens, from pre-historic times to the 2 Alpes international resort. ‘The history of our village and its Roman road’ is told in cartoon strip style.
