The Museum of Huez and Oisans and the Brandes archaeological site, both located in the resort of Alpe d’Huez, invite you to discover the heritage of Oisans. It was indeed in the heart of the Oisans massif that silver hunters created the site of Brandes in the 12th century. For nearly two centuries, at an altitude of 1800 metres, they braved the cold and snow for six months of the year to mine rich deposits of lead silver. The site includes guided visits, an archaeological dig and tourist facilities.

The museum, located in the centre of the Alpe d’Huez resort, traces not only this adventure, but also the history of the village of Huez from ancient geological times through to the current day.

The exhibition is entitled Huez - Alpe d’Huez: from a mountain village to an international resort. An accompanying catalogue is on sale in the museum.

There are guided visits of Brandes, the museum and the Notre-Dame des Neiges church (which features a world-famous 23 stop organ and wonderful Arcabas stained glass windows). Mountain workshops are also arranged for children.
