-Ice caves

Timeless, magical and fascinating... the Oisans ice caves can be visited using the ski lifts.

You can discover these spectacular caves, with their amazing ice and snow sculptures, in the glaciers of Les 2 Alpes (3 400 m) and La Meije (3 200 m). Round off your day out on the mountain tops with an exploration the magical world of ice caves!

Les 2 Alpes ice cave, at an altitude of 3400 m, is the biggest and highest in the world. It was dug in 1993 by two mountain guides, Bruno Gardent and Bernard Lambolez and allows you to go 30 m under the surface of the glacier. Inside the cave, sculptors from all over Europe have created a number of temporary works, transforming the austere galleries into a fabulous world of art. During your visit, you will also see ice sculptures depicting bygone mountain trades.

La Grave ice cave is located near the Ruillans restaurant on the Meije glacier, at an altitude of 3200 m. Inside this cave, you can explore the magical world of ice. The cave has been turned into a real glacier museum, featuring deep natural crevasses 30 m under the surface. A wonderful world of sculptures, created by a team of artists, is waiting to be discovered.
