Oisans, with its majestic backdrop of mountains, offers a wide range of hiking trails for all levels of walkers and nature-lovers. Oisans is located in the heart of the Ecrins National Park, an unspoilt, untamed area with exceptional natural heritage and a tremendous variety of scenery and sights.
Oisans is home to an extraordinary range of fauna and flora, as well as fascinating geological features. With over 800 km of way-marked trails, ranging from easy strolls to adventurous hikes, you can escape to the highest summits and discover scenery that is as varied as it is astonishing.
You may wish to spend just a half-day discovering nature’s secrets, but if you venture for a longer walk, you can stop off a number of mountain refuges where you will be welcomed just for a rest or for a refreshing night’s sleep if you are hiking over several days!
Maps and leaflets of walks (in French) entitled ’L’Oisans au Bout des Pieds’ are on sale in all Oisans Tourist Offices (5€ for the leaflet and accompanying map).
The GR 54: Hikers must not miss out on the famous Tour de l’Oisans: the GR 54. Open from July to September, this ‘Grande Randonnée’ (GR), or long-distance footpath, combines the joys of walking and superb mountain views. It goes not only through Oisans and its untamed valleys, but also through the areas of Guisane, Vallouise, Champsaur, Valjouffrey and Valsenestre.
